PROJECT OVERVIEW - STUDY #1 (GWP 4005-17-00)
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) Eastern Region has retained the services of McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers Ltd. and LEA Consulting Ltd. Joint Venture (MP-LEA Joint Venture) to carry out the Preliminary Design and Environmental Assessment for Highway 401 from 500m west of Cranberry Road to 450m east of County Road 28, including the Cranberry Road Bridge, Choate Road Bridge and Ganaraska River Bridge within the Municipality of Port Hope, County of Northumberland.
The purpose of the study is to identify the long-term needs for the three bridges and to establish the footprint for the future expansion of Highway 401 to eight lanes by 2051 and ten lanes by 2081.
The study is following the approved planning process for a Group 'B' project under the Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000).
Alternatives to the undertaking will be generated and evaluated based on technical and environmental factors. Consultation with stakeholders will occur and design alternatives will be presented to help identify a Recommended Plan. Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held for the study to provide stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss the project, view project materials and provide comments.
Upon completion of the study, the Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) will be submitted for a 30-day public review period. Notification advising of the PICs and of the availability of the TESR, will be advertised in local newspapers and sent to the project mailing list.
